So your acne medication promises you tremendous results after a few days. Theres just one tiny problem, you have to go out TODAY and face the world. You need not to worry because these tips will help you conceal acne by using makeup as you wait for your acne treatment to work. However, note that they only conceal and do not cure acne.

Getting Started…

The first step is to choose make-up products that are oil free and that match your skin type. Remember, your skin’s acne condition is as a result of excess oil, you don’t want to aggravate acne by adding another fresh layer of oil on your skin. Read the labels of your make-up sparingly. It is very simple to use make up to conceal acne, but here are a few crucial rules that you ought to follow for marvelous results.

Before starting your process, you need to have washed your face as usual using your usual cleaning product and pat the face dry. Apply any medication you are using as instructed.

Now on to the makeup… Your basic acne makeup kit should contain a concealer, foundation and a finishing powder. It is a good idea to only use reliable brand name makeup (the good quality stuff) since your skin needs special care. Remember to go for oil free products, while you are at it, select a hypoallergenic brand.

If you are not sure of a brand, test it first by applying some bits of it in a small portion, say under your jaw and see how your skin will respond. You will find out quickly - usually within an hour if your skin any allergies to the make up.

Step #1 - Apply Concealer

After your medication has dried out completely, you can start by applying the concealer carefully in a light daubing motion. Apply on all areas affected by acne. You can use a non-reusable facial sponge to blend the concealer. Apply just enough as more concealer will make it very thick, which will look awful when it dries.

Step #2 - Apply Foundation

Just as the concealer, use your sponge to apply your base foundation in dabbing motions carefully; you can reapply to other areas to even out the color all over your face.

Step #3 - Finish Up With Powder

The last step is applying a very light coating of powder using a big makeup brush. This clears any shines left behind by the concealer and foundation and helps provide an even finishing to your face.

Some Tips:

  • You should dispose off all disposable sponges so that you do not use them while making up again as this will only carry the previous dirt and bacteria to a fresh clean face.
  • Remember to remove your makeup as soon as possible to let your skin have a chance to breathe.
  • Use a gentle cleanser for removing makeup (Noxzema makes good products for this) because you don’t want to over dry your skin.
  • Never (ever, ever) go to bed with makeup on.
